Norway Power Pilot of Offshore Wind to meet Demand Of AI
Exascale Labs and EnergyBank signed an MOU to co-locate modular AI data centers with floating offshore wind and battery storage off Norway, starting at 800kW.

AI data center developer Exascale Labs and energy storage firm EnergyBank have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding to explore pairing modular, off-grid AI compute with floating offshore wind and long-duration battery storage. The initial pilot is set for Zephyros-One, site of the world's first floating wind turbine off Norway's coast, starting at 800kW with an eye toward scaling individual turbines to 10MW.
The pitch, in EnergyBank's words, is to "turn variable offshore power into firm, high-value compute without waiting years for a grid connection" — sidestepping the interconnection queues that have become one of the biggest bottlenecks to bringing new AI capacity online cleanly. Next steps include joint feasibility studies and a reference architecture the partners hope to scale beyond this single pilot.
A reference architecture is only as valuable as its openness. If Exascale and EnergyBank publish the technical specifications and performance data from this pilot, it could become a template other developers adopt rather than a one-off proof of concept — the kind of open infrastructure spec AI for Ecology wants to help catalog and benchmark, matching variable renewable generation to flexible compute load in a way anyone can replicate and verify.
